Christianity is not a race, although some might think it is. The goal is not to do more good deeds than the next person or to be more upstanding or righteous than everyone else. But similar to a race, life on earth is something that we will one day finish. Then the question becomes: How will you finish?
For I am already being poured out as an offering, and the time for me to depart is at hand. I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith!
(2Ti 4:6-7 NET)
Here Paul is at the end of his life and he refers to himself as being poured out like a drink offering. The making of a drink offering was voluntary and used to recognize the greatness of God and the giver received nothing. Paul has voluntarily poured himself out for God, and His purposes, and in so doing he has kept the faith; he has finished strong.
Difficulties will come and go in life but God is always with you, He is the only eternal and unchanging thing. Voluntarily pour yourself out for God’s purposes and hold tightly to Him all your life and you will be able to keep the faith and finish strong!!
