The Full Armor of God: Why do we Wear it?

I am sure that most Christians have heard about the full armor of God. In Ephesians 6 Paul details the pieces of armor that the saints are to wear so that they are fully equipped to fight in the spiritual battle that is constantly ongoing. Let’s take a look at why Paul says we should wear this armor.

Substitute Saviour?

We all worship idols, even though we may try our best not to. Sometimes we don’t even realize that we have in fact turned something into an idol. The thing that makes it most difficult is that we have become a society of idols. Everyone wants the latest and greatest thing or that big career jump that they think will turn them into what they perceive is a ‘somebody’ or give their life that ultimate purpose. For me I find that it is books and knowledge. I always seem to feel that if I read a particular book I will perhaps feel that I have a good knowledge of something, but of course no sense of enlightenment occurs once I have finished my reading, my knowledge has increased as it should and that should be all I expect from it, it is just a book after all. (Kind of reminds me of a definition of hell I once heard: ‘Hell is to execute an act of which nothing comes except to do it again’).

We prayed that it would be some sort of ministry opportunity that would enable us to further the Kingdom in some way by reaching out to people with the Gospel message. Then something came… I feel such a renewed sense of purpose as I now work with the opportunity that has been presented to us and that got me to thinking about being on fire, being cold, and being lukewarm. Lukewarm Christianity is something that you often hear in Christian circles but it is one concept that is often gotten wrong by people.

You Don’t Have to be Perfect to Walk in the Light

Christians are down on themselves (and each other sometimes) a lot. We try each and every day not to fall prey to temptations into sin and each and every day we fall short of the mark. Nobody can be perfect, and that’s ok because God doesn’t demand that of us. All he asks is that we honestly try our best.
