I am sure that we all have huge plans for this year! I know that I do! There is so many things that I plan to accomplish and so many places that I plan on going and I can’t wait to do them all! By nature we are planners. Many people like to fly by the seat of their pants (and I do as well sometimes) but we know that it is better to make a plan when we want to do something. Naturally we will check with our spouse or significant other to see what they think of our plans but as Christians we have to go higher than that. We have a higher authority whose plan will always take precedence over ours and we must check with Him:
Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” (Jam 4:13-15 NIV)
It is ok to make plans, we all should plan out things that we hope to accomplish and places that we would like to go. As Christians we must always be aware of the fact that God’s plan will work out no matter what our plans might be. God’s will is always over our will and if it is His will that our plans work out then they will, if they don’t work out then perhaps there are reasons why they shouldn’t that we are not aware of!
